Drummer boys in both the Confederate and Union armies served with distinction thoughout the war. Some were mere boys, as young as ten years of age. That many of these young men were wounded and some even killed in battle attests to the dangerous conditions to which they were exposed. They endured the same difficulties, hardships and privations as any other soldier in the field. They were veterans in every sense of the word.
