A SPECIAL PROJECT by Gray Stone Press for the Lincoln County Historical Preservation Committee.

This painting by David Wright depicts a possible meeting showing General Andrew Jackson, Ensign Sam Houston, David Crockett, and Dr. Charles McKinney during the Tennessee Militia muster at Camp Blount (Fayetteville, Tennessee) in October 1813. Jackson rallied the militia in response to the Creek Indians attacking and killing nearly 500 men, women and children at Fort Mims in Alabama the previous August. With nearly 2500 men, Jackson set out on the campaign that eventually ended the Creek uprising with the Indian defeats at the battles of Talladega, Tallushatchee, and culminating with the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, March 27, 1814.
